Connecting Google

Before you can import from a spreadsheet, connect a Google account:

  1. Go to Import Data and choose Google Sheets as the data source.
  2. Click to connect your Google account and sign in.
  3. Approve the requested permission -- TaxReceipt.app uses Google's drive.file scope, which only grants access to files you explicitly pick in the file picker. It cannot browse or read the rest of your Drive.
  4. Once connected, the account appears with a green status indicator.

You can manage or disconnect this connection later from the connections page alongside your other data sources.

Importing a sheet

  1. Click Select from Google Drive to open the Google file picker, scoped to spreadsheets only.
  2. Choose the file you want to import.
  3. Pick the worksheet (tab) that holds your donor data.
  4. Confirm whether the first row contains headers -- toggle this off if your sheet starts directly with data.
  5. Click Preview Data to see the detected columns and the first rows of data.
  6. Review the preview, then import to create an import batch.

Field mapping

After the import batch is created, map the spreadsheet's columns to TaxReceipt.app's canonical fields the same way you would for a CSV or Excel upload. See Field Mapping for how auto-mapping works and how to save the mapping as a reusable import template.

Troubleshooting

Reconnection required

If your Google connection has expired, you'll see a message asking you to reconnect. Click Reconnect Google Account and sign in again -- your previously selected files and mappings are not affected.

File access expired

Because the app only has access to files you explicitly select, access to a previously picked spreadsheet can expire (for example, if it hasn't been opened through the app in a while). If you see a File Access Expired message, select the file again through the picker, or reconnect your Google account if the problem persists.
