What Is an Organization?
An organization represents the charity or nonprofit that issues tax receipts. Every receipt, template, and project belongs to an organization.
When you sign up, a billing organization is created automatically. This organization handles your Stripe billing (subscriptions, add-on purchases, invoices). You can create additional non-billing organizations if you manage multiple charities.
Required Information
To create an organization you need:
- Organization name -- the public-facing name (e.g., "Helping Hands Foundation").
- Legal name -- the registered legal entity name, printed on receipts.
- Tax ID -- your CRA charity registration number (Canada) or EIN (US).
- Contact information -- phone number, email address, and optional website.
- Address -- street, city, province/state, postal/ZIP code, and country.
This information appears on generated receipts and must match your government registration.
Creating an Organization
- Click New Organization from the dashboard or organization switcher.
- Complete the three-step form: Basic Information, Contact Information, and Address.
- Review and confirm.
You can edit organization details later from Organization Settings.
Multiple Organizations
If you administer receipts for more than one charity, you can add extra organizations. The Free plan includes one organization; additional organizations cost $20/year each. See Add-ons for details.
Switch between organizations using the organization selector in the top navigation bar. Each organization has its own templates, projects, receipts, and team members.
Manage every organization on your account from Organization Settings, where each one appears as a card you can edit inline -- name, legal name, tax ID, contact details, and address -- without leaving the page. The organization created at signup is your billing organization; it handles all Stripe billing for the account and can't be deleted. Additional organizations can be deleted from the same card, with an inline confirmation step to guard against accidental removal.
Your organization limit only counts organizations you own -- being added as a team member to someone else's organization never uses up your allowance, and your first organization is always included no matter which plan you're on.
Team Members
Invite colleagues to collaborate within an organization. Each member is assigned a role:
| Role | Permissions | |------|------------| | Owner | Full access, billing management, can delete organization | | Admin | Manage members, templates, and projects | | Member | Create and send receipts | | Viewer | Read-only access to receipts and reports |
The Free plan includes one team member per organization. Add more with the Team Members add-on ($20/year per member). See Team Members for invitation and management details.
